Whenever I used to see some absurd policy in India, I wud wonder where it is inherited from. Now after coming to UK, I realise all the absurd policies in India are originated from UK.
In this fast moving world, what is the point of holding the passport for such a long time? With overall efficiency of people in UK and that too Govt. offices, it is quite understandable once the number of applications increases they will take longer (2-3 months) to decide a case. I do not know who is their process guru who has come up with such stupid process of sending the passport along with application. The earlier process was much better - they decide the case in 1st phase. Once approved, get it stamped quickly. You passport is not blocked. Who can assure, a person won't require to travel in 2-3 months time?

We can be patient. But why are they taking passport if they cannot ensure a quick process. Specially, when you are in business world - how one can ensure in advance he/she won't require travel in next 2-3 months.
Don't take the passport in advance and let them take their sweet time.

When you deal with UK Home Office, you must learn to be patient .... extremely patient.


Even if they increase the service standard to 14 weeks, it there anything that you will be able to do about it ..... other than withdrawing your application??? So take a chill pill .... and wait for the good news to come (whenever it comes).

Good news to share. I got my Passports with Tier1 approval today.

Applied: 21st April (WP to Tier1 in UK) along with a Return by Special Delivery 9AM envelope.
Received: 24th May
Date Approved: 20th May and VISA valid till May 2011.

Points claimed: 85+10+10
Points got:105

Docs produced as evidence:
1. University degree certificate + NARIC Letter (Not required but had sent as I had one)
2. Salary slips for 10 months (all UK earnings) on A4 sheet signed and sealed by employer
3. Original Bank statements (Same cited as evidence for earnings and maintenance)
4. IELTS Results sheet (Not required but had sent as I had one)

Docs for dependent (Spouse):
1. Marriage Certifcate
2. For maintenance proof I didn't attach separate statements but in the section covering letter referred to my application.

I had a main covering letter and also detailed section covering letters. I had used transparent post-its on salary slips and bank statements to make it easier for the caseworker to compare the amounts on the same.

Caseworker called my Company to cross check about my salary details and whether I still work with the company, as I had given 11 months payslip (feb 2007 - dec 2007). Jan 2008 and Feb 2008 was on vacation and havent worked since mar 2008 after I returned to UK... was waiting for next assignment. I would suggest you to inform your company hr or put someone who could help you out as reference. I didnt get any service certificate but would recommend to get one.

As the service standards increased to 10 weeks, I would recommend you to send along a self addressed special delivery. Dont forget to get the Special Delivery tracking number of the self-addressed one from the post office staff while sending your documents. I didnt get it from post office staff, but luckily one of the HO CC staff told me the reference number when i called them up. Atleast through this you can check Royal Mail website at regular intervals without bothering HO CC.

My experience with HO CC, till the time they dispatch the documents most likely they would be saying that your case is still under consideration. Same thing happened to me.

Good luck to all fellas who are waiting for their turn. I would say 10 week time lines are just to avoid the frequent calls and not the processing time lines.

Wow, congrats to all of you!
I've submitted my application on 24th April, have not heard anything since (except that UKBA return me with reference number).
I am quite worried now on what's happen with the application as mine probably not as straight forward as you all. I have 6 month maternity inbetween my previous earning period, plus my salary always been deposited to my husband acct (so I put in our marriage cert with the application). To make things worse, my house mortgage had withhold the last 3 month of my bank statement due to large backlog they unable to return it on time!!! (Now I have them back, but not sure whether I should send it to UKBA ??) So I sent official duplicate with my Tier 1 application (however, official duplicate of Barclay bank statement looks like produce out of excel sheet, with no bank logo whatsoever. And that cost me 5 pound!! But I managed to ask the manager to stamp it)
I was previously granted HSMP for 1 year, and looking for extension under Tier 1.
I hope my passport will be returned soon.

I am thinkin of aplyin for Tier 1 this week. Got all the docs but was just wondering if it makes sense to apply through consultant or agency. Anybody here - what your exp have been? Does that matter at all or am i just worrying a bit more here and should give a try myself?

After going through the guidelines and application form, I'm under the impression if your degree in listed in self assessment tool in BIA site, then you don't need to provide any additional document as proof of English Language requirement. But I observered almost all the applicants are providing either IELTS or equivalent score or medium of instruction from university or marksheet (where the medium of instructionis mentioned).

I wanted a voting from successful applicants simply selecting anyone of the following
1. My degree is in Self Assement tool, no additional document is submitted
2. My degree is in Self Assement tool, still additional document is submitted
3. My degree is NOT in Self Assement tool, so submitted additional document.

Hello Aamir,
My thoughts about the Tax returns, Is there a way that you could show that the exact amount in the tax return. Atleast in India, it doesnt show the split for each month. I guess the Form 16 used to have that. The difficulty with tax return is to show the amount for only a part of it and not fully. In other words, how to work out pro-rata would be a key factor. Hopefully all of your stay in UK during your student visa doesnt violate any conditions/overstay. Other documents looks fine. Good luck to you.

Hello Aamir,
My thoughts about the Tax returns, Is there a way that you could show that the exact amount in the tax return. Atleast in India, it doesnt show the split for each month. I guess the Form 16 used to have that. The difficulty with tax return is to show the amount for only a part of it and not fully. In other words, how to work out pro-rata would be a key factor. Hopefully all of your stay in UK during your student visa doesnt violate any conditions/overstay. Other documents looks fine. Good luck to you.

2 . Masters degree which is on home office assesment tool also with naric certificate

3. 12 payslips jan04 to december 04

4. employer letter stating my annual salary and tax during jan04 to dec 04

5. Tax return for year 03/04 (july03 to june04) which means it covers only six months i.e jan04 to june 04.
for rest of the 6 months i have sent tax challans. for each month. it has a tax stamp by tax authorities and gives detail of salary and tax deducted 6 of them...the tax challans are a supplymentary evidence as tax year is july to june...

8. college letters jan 05 to till date through which i am establihing that i am a student in uK

I called on 19th they said it was allocated to case worker on 15th May
Called again on 22 they said it was under checking process and once the application is under assigned to case worker it does not take much time.They said I may probably get my documents back by end of next week 30th May.
My Application has taken more time as I paid by cheque and it added extra 5 days to payment and 2more days for issuing the acknowledgement/reference letter. I have applied through a immigration law firm. It may have also added some delay as their information will also be verified.
I will let everyone in the forum know my results. Just keeping my fingers crossed as my heart beating faster.
