Report which is your uni and can you exempt IELTS?

Post by immigrationboards » Mon May 26, 2008 4:32 pm

Do you want to report which is your university, what is your award title and can you exempt IELTS?

I think we need a database to estimate we can exempt IELTS or not!

For Tier 1 applications, check the self-assessment tool on the BIA website to ascertain whether you are exempt from providing evidence of passing any listed examinations. If your qualification is not listed in the self assessment tool in the English Requirement section and you are not a citizen of majority english speaking country (list available on BIA website / notes), you have no option available to you other than to take any of the given exams.

As per para 186 of the Tier 1 policy guidance - "Where the applicant is unable to find details of their qualification on the Self Assessment Tool, UK NARIC will not be able to verify whether a qualification satisfies the English Language requirement. In these circumstances, applicants should either present an alternative qualification from the Self Assessment Tool if they possess one, or select an alternative means of satisfying the English Language requirement".

Anyone can check whether his/her qualification is listed in the self-assessment tool or not, so would it help by advertising the same on this forum :?:

http://www.ukba.homeoffice.gov.uk/pointscalculator

Do you mind to send me the link or quote it to me? Thank you!

 You must be joking when you say that you couldn't find any univeristy from India or other countries in the self assessment tool .

Try this to enlighten yourself:
Country of study: India
State: Delhi
Qualification: Bachelors degree (minimum four year programme)
Institution / Body: University of Delhi
Year awarded: 2000
length: 4 years or less than 5 years
Subject: Engineering
Grade: Below 80%
Add to qualification list: Yes

It shows that you get 30 points for this qualification. Move forward in the assessment tool and in the English Language section, select "other" as your nationality. Below this you'll see this sentence "The qualification(s) you entered previously are identified as meeting the English language requirement. You can claim your points using this qualification, enter another qualification, or claim points for an English language test".

And remember that Tier 1 is a scheme for highly skilled workers.

Just worry about your own qualification and see if you meet the language requirements.

Leave the research bit to BIA

Sorry to butt in dude, but what he is saying is kind of right.. university including mine -Panjab UNi. which was granting me points earlier (checked 15 days back) , the way you said in that screen have disappeared now.. i.e they only come for qualification section and even after saving them do not appear as with the said message.
And this is quite possible cause these guys have a habit of making minor tweakings on the sly and screwing people.

I think its best to call VFS india - 08040084008 and check up from them.
Me going to do that... You guys keep me us updated if u hear anything as well.

This is another intresting thing to note in the point calculator.
When the score is saved in a pdf format check the English language section.

Do you want to claim points for English Language? No (even if you chose yes , it comes as NO) !!!

Claiming points for a qualification is different from claiming 10 points for english Language requirement. I checked with some of the Unoversities, so whereas for some universities, one would be awarded points for a bachelor's degree, the point calculator does not accept the same university for awarding point against english language criteria - And this is understandable as not all the universities have english as a medium of instruction.

Umeshsethi, were you referring to above situation or you are saying that they have taken off the name of your univ from the education point claiming list ??
