Visual Basic Jon market in UK

Post by momer79 » Wed Jun 18, 2008 11:35 am

Hi, I am living in UK and working as Software Support Consultant, now i am trying to move into software development and finding it very difficult to get developer role.

I have given alot of interviews but no success. I have more than 2 yr experience in software development.

I am wondering if anyone else is looking for VB jobs in UK and have any good advise for me.

Regards
Umar

VB developers

Hi Kaf,

Thanks for your reply. I normally apply for jobs on cwjobs website. After giving alot of interviews i am finding it difficult to compete British white guys, the biggest big advantage i have is my brown skin. You might not agree with me but this also a factor along with the issue of individual's skill set.

The other problem is not getting right feedback; because not all recruitment agencies tell the truth and companies don’t give right feedback.

Recently I got following feedback from the company I had interview with:

----------------------------------------
Morning Umar

To be honest, it was very tight between yourself and the gentleman we
have employed. Your interview was very good and it took a while to
decide who we should take on, it literally came down to toss.

Sorry we can't offer you more feedback, you came so close and did
nothing wrong.

We wish you well in finding suitable employment in the near future.

-----------------------------------------

I think right feedback plays vital role in approving your skills.

Now i am not applying outside manchester becuase its too much for me to take day off for interview and spend alot of money on traveling.

Do you work as a VB developer?

Regards

No I am not Developer anymore, I am in Software Project Management, but I am VB guy sicnce 1995..

Remeber there isn't skin factor at all when it comes down to skills. All companies want to hire someone who got talent because they want to earn money by investing in you.. They might be wrong on judging you which they will find out later, but I suggest that you should keep on looking without underestimating you.

Try different sites (Jobserve etc..)

Good luck..

If the market for VB skills is so much on the high as you say, then why anyone would really need exceptional skills to get the job? Average/more than average skills should do the trick !!!!

I don't know what got in your mind.

Go to itjobboard dot com and you will see the heading about vb specialist. Market always reflect skills shortage, so if they can't find vb professional they will keep on looking untill that becomes hot (for a little while) It is not about VB, it could be any skill..
So it you are alos looking then Hope for the best, or do something to be the best.

Good luck

Be clear in your mind first as to what you want to say !!! The above quote does not make any sense.

I was earlier only commenting on your remark related to "exceptional skills". If you cannot take it in the right way then leave it !

Kaff,
Like dnicky even I couldn't understand what you wanted to convey.

If VB is hot..why do you need to show exceptional skills?

There are many employer who hires strictly on the basis of merit , talent etc
There are many colored people in UK who are doing very well.
You have to keep positive and strive what you want.
If you are persistent with your approach, you will eventually get what you want.
