Permanent residency in germany

Post by pencillin » Sat Sep 06, 2008 5:19 pm

How long does one need to live in Germany to be eligible for permanent residency? Is it 7 years? And if the person is married to a german citizen how long will it be?

Does time on a student visa count towards it?

I tried to find any english page that explain it but failed, I'm sure someone can advice or post some useful links?

Many thanks in advance

Answers here, one click on Google.............

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/German_nationality_law

For those who can't be bothered clicking it's eight years normally, seven if u've complete the the German Integration (why did the spellchecker suggest 'interrogation' for that word..?'" Course, six if a refugee yet more positive discrimination, three if married to a German.

Also there's the rather tough German Language requirement, not 'able to click on things' like the UK one and Germany does not normally allow dual nationality.

Much thanks for the link, there's still one answer I couldn't a defintie answer, would years spent studying an undergraduate course counts towards the 8 years clock? It does say 'normal residency' but doesn't tell exactly what type.

Many thanks
