Hi,

I have made a mistake on my citizenship application, where it asks about travel document. I thought the question was referring to my UK travel document so i said yes and completed in my UK travel document details. Once I submitted my application my check list/required documents was asking for Somalian travel document and prove I don’t have any immigration restrictions. I can’t change it now.

I wrote a cover letter explaining the mistake, included my UK travel document and biometric card and uploaded it. I don’t have any immigration restrictions I have ILR.

You think the mistake will effect my application or shall I withdraw the application and fill out again? I didn’t submit the document yet just uploaded them.

Do you have a Home Office Travel Document? Is your Somalian passport with HO?

I never had Somalian travel document or passport. I always had Home office travel document since I got the ILR in 2002. I taught the question was referring to my home office travel document because it only asks do you have travel document.

So where is your Home Country’s Passport? How did you arrive in UK? Without a passport?

It is normal to generate your home country’s passport in the checklist. Just clarify in the cover letter that your Home Country’s Passport is with HO (if not just upload a copy of that with your documents) or clarify you never had one based on your circumstance. Also, upload a copy of your HOTD.
UKVCAS staff goes by the checklist and may demand your Somalian passport as it is generated in the checklist. Just tell them you are a refugee if they do and you have HOTD instead. No issues.

No need to withdraw your application. All good. Just clarify in the cover letter and upload.

Again I’m sorry for this mistake and I couldn’t change it. I will be providing my UK travel document in the uploading section. I’m free from any immigration control I have ILR since 2002.

This is all good. Btw, the checklist generates home country passport by pre-set default when you put your Nationality as “Somalian.” This error is not at your end. This is how the form is pre-set. However, your clarification is okay and you will have NO issues.

Provide the same clarification to the UKVCAS staff if asked as they have zero knowledge about immigration matters. You will have no issues with HO.

The mistake I done was completing the travel document section with my HOTD details. Because it asks first what nationality you are and it goes to ask do you have passport and it goes to ask do you travel document. I thought it meant my HO travel document. I should’ve just said no. But thanks for clarifying it for me

Yes you correctly pointed out about the sequence. Initially you should have done NO to valid passport, then it would have asked if you have expired passport and then goes on to travel document. The travel document is the HOTD and if you mentioned that there it was right to do. But anyways, as stated previously you are good to go.

The home country passport is generating by default due to your Nationality input.

See where it says Details of your trips outside the UK. They mean last 5 years right?

Yes your qualifying period for AN is 5 years, assuming you are NOT married to BC.

I have also noticed in my check list (proof of freedom from immigration time restrictions). Is it maybe because of the Somalian travel document mistake?And is the biometric card sufficient for proof of freedom from immigration time restrictions and it says on my home office travel document that I don’t have time limit in staying in UK.

They are asking for biometric card in the check list asswell.

No not because of that. BRP is sufficient for proof of immigration restrictions. Yes it is normal as same BRP satisfies both requirements.

On a different note: Have you had your travel document for the last 5 years? Are there any gaps between two travel documents covering last 5 years?

Yes I had one from 2006-2016 (expired) and the second is from 2017-present

When did it expire in 2016? What date in 2017 is the issue date? What date you submitted your application? How are you proving your continuous residency for last 5 years?

It has expired in dec 2016, the new one was issued 13/12/17.

You have enough documents to prove it. However, refugees are fine even without proving it.

You must not normally accept doctors' letters on their own as proof of residence. However, if nothing else is available and the doctors can confirm that they have seen the applicant on a regular basis during the period concerned these may be accepted.

If there are gaps in a person’s evidence of residence and it is clear from the information available that they could not have travelled, you must accept this. Examples of this might include a refugee who has no means of travel or where immigration records confirm continuous residence.

Home Office should check their own records.

Your HOTD is enough. Even if you never had an HOTD, it was fine. I would suggest you quote this guidance in the cover letter also due to the gap in HOTD just to be on safe side.

Also mention, that you are additionally adding 5 years work proof from HMRC or even an employer letter alone is enough. No need to submit too many documents.

The above would be my suggestion.

The 5 years work history from HMRC is up to 2018 that’s why I got attended appointments letter from job center to cover up to oct 2019- I have included letter from employer and p60 covering the same period.

To be honest nothing is required really. Only your HOTD’s and the above guidance will be sufficient but you can submit as you wish.

Since you have prepared the documents, its fine, let them go.

Your HOTD’s cover 4 years anyways (stamps). Dec 16 - Dec 17 the above guidance will work.

Lets say you had NO employment OR no HOTD’s even then the above guidance would work.
