Children’s passports due to expire before we apply for ILR as a family

Hi, sorry, apologies if this is the incorrect place to post, but a question. My wife and I are due to apply for ILR next year however my children’s passports expire a month or two before we are due to apply. We have applied to renew their passports but if they do not arrive in time, do we have any options? Or would the children have to leave the country and apply for visas from outside the UK?

They can apply without their passports. Just add a cover letter that their passports have not been returned
