Confused on ILR route via Ancestry Visa!

Post by SFJ » Wed Jan 19, 2022 11:20 am

Hi everyone!
I am in the UK on an Ancestry Visa, my second visa as I have been here for 6 years now. I have looked at applying for ILR but I am really confused, on the gov website it says you have to prove you are still a commonwealth citizen for the ILR via Ancestry Visa route - Zimbabwe is not part of the commonwealth - so I am assuming I have to wait for the 10 year mark to apply under the long stay route as a Zimbabwean then? No immigration assistance websites say anything about being a commonwealth citizen so I am really not sure!

Thank you for any assistance, much appreciated!

Citizens of Zimbabwe still qualify for ancestry visa etc.

https://www.gov.uk/ancestry-visa
Overview
You can apply for a UK Ancestry visa if you’re one of the following:

a Commonwealth citizen
a British overseas citizen
a British overseas territories citizen
a British national (overseas)
a citizen of Zimbabwe
Char (CR001 not Casa)

Thank you, yes I am in the UK on an ancestry visa and am looking to start the ILR via ancestry, but the website states you must also prove:

You must also prove you:

have enough money to support yourself and your dependants
can, and plan to, work in the UK
are still a Commonwealth citizen

So I am querying the "are still a commonwealth citizen" for Indefinite Leave to Remain?

Although Zimbabwe has not been a part of the Commonwealth since 2003, Zimbabwean citizens retain Commonwealth citizenship because the country remains on Schedule 3 of the British Nationality Act 1981. This includes eligibility for settlement.
