I am a British Citizen and my Filipino husband is here lawfully on a Spouse Visa. He has successfully created an eVisa account using his Biometric Residence Permit (BRP) early last year.
Last August 2025, he travelled to the Philippines for a holiday. Prior to going, he attempted so many times to update his eVisa account by adding his Filipino passport (as instructed - because it said that upon attempting to return to the UK, the overseas check in staff at the airport would 'scan' his (biometrics) passport and be able to see digitally that he had a valid UK visa and that if he had not added his passport successfully, he would be denied boarding (or have to show that he had a valid UK visa by some other method i.e. a Share Code)).
BUT, for some strange reason, even though he had not been able to link his passport to his eVisa account, all he did was show this passport at check in (there was no vignette visa in the passport) and he was not asked for his BRP or a Share code or any other proof - he was still allowed to check in and travel.
From everything that we have read, this should not have been possible - as his eVisa is still linked to the expired BRP and not his Filipino Passport that he was travelling on.
How was this possible - what information were the check in staff at Manila Airport (Emirates Stupid) able to see just by scanning his Filipino Passport that convinced them / showed them that he was indeed holding a valid UK Visa. Were they still able to see his UK eVisa even though that Filipino Passport (which is the same one that he has held since arriving for the first time in the UK in 2021) was not 'officially' linked to his eVisa?
We are worried that this may have been a fluke and that if he again travels to the Philippines this year with his eVisa account still being only linked to his expired BRP (and not his Filipino Passport), that he may be denied boarding (if they will not accept a Share code scenario).
Also any advice / suggestions additionally with how to go about sorting out this problem of not being able to link his eVisa account to his Filipino Passport. The problem seems to be with the eVisa digital software whereby you enter a person's name - that is First Name, Middle Name and Surname as printed in the Filipino Passport Details section on the templated form but then, when it analyses the Biometric Section of the Filipino Passport - where the Philippine Passport issuing office only puts in the First Name and Surname, it throws up a mismatch and rejects it. I've looked at so many other Philippine Passports, and this seems to a standard thing - First Name, Middle Name and Surname printed on the Passport Details section but always only the First Name and Surname in the Passport Biometric section.
Has anybody else had this issue with a Filipino Passport or a passport of another country which does the same thing - British Passports do not have this problem - whatever names are printed in the Passport Details section are replicated in full in the Passport's Biometric section.
Any advice on how to solve this problem - this clearly can not be solved via anything online.
Appreciate any comments / advice.
Thank you,
Dory
