Work full-time, study part-time

Post by Anh1983 » Sun Mar 22, 2009 9:33 am

Hi,

I am currently hold Work Permit and work full time. Can any one tell me that I dont need any extra visa to study a part-time course (MSc in Marketing)? I will just enrol & study without asking the HO for study visa because this not a full time course and I am holding WP.

Also, will a part-time course qualify for Post-study visa or just full-time coourse?

Many thanks

As long as you are work and pay tax....You can study full or part time....Part and full time courses are both eligible for PSW....you dont need to inform HO even if u start studying full time while being on WP

Cheers

You cannot qualify for PSW if you study for your qualification with a work permit. Check the points system on UKBA website.

Hi All,

I finished an MSc degree here in the UK on November 2008 and applied for the PSW visa on Jan 31st 2009.
My question is, am I allowed to work full-time while waiting for the response?

As I know, I'm allowed to work full-time, but all my documents are at HO. Should I ask for a letter that says that I am allowed to work full-time?

Thanks.

I don't think you are allowed to work full time during "term time" still until you get your psw visa. You are still on a student visa status until your visa comes through. That's my understanding of the process, others might have different opinions.

Thanks a lot for the answer. My visa expired on Jan 31st 2009, the same day I applied for PSW.
So I'm considered as if I still have student visa and can work 20hrs/pw I guess.

Once your degree is finished and you are awaiting results and applied for PSW according to HO rules you can work full-time for up to 4 months.

so for example your visa finishes in january 2009 and your course finished in Sept 2008 then from Oct 2008 to Jan 2009 you can work full time. and while your PSW application (not appeal) is under consideration then still you can work full-time till you get any outcome. If the PSW visa is refused and you appeal against it then you are only allowed to work 20 hours as your student leave expired already but because you appeal the previous leave will get extended (in this case student), where one can only work 2 hours.

Hope that helps

Thanks a lot jack199, that really helps.
Companies want evidence for that rule that I can still work full-time while my application is being considered.
Is there a way to show a company that this rule exists?
I couldn't find it on the ukba web site.

Are there any official documents (i.e.UKBA Web page) that I can show to my employer which says that while I'm waiting for the result of my application, I can work full-time?
I couldn't find any official information about this.

Edit: OK, I found something like this: http://www.ukcosa.org.uk/files/pdf/work ... ng_psw.pdf
