visa nationals and missed flights

Post by 86ti » Wed Feb 18, 2009 10:15 am

What happens if a visa national has to stay over night because a connection flight was missed?

The reason I ask is that KLM offers some cheap flights but where the departure of the connection flight is just very shortly after the arrival of the previous flight. A delay of the previous flight can happen very easily. I was once in such a situation. As an EEA citizen I could just leave the airport in Amsterdam and stay at a nearby hotel (KLM paid for the hotel stay).

But what if you are a visa national? I suppose you won't be given a visa directly at the airport and have to stay at a hotel within the airport. Any experience from Schiphol airport?

because the first flight was late.
I was waitting in the airport about 4-5 hours. then the staff work on the aiport took us to the hotel, but with record of every's passport. and had been told no to leave the hotel too far.
next day, the staff count us one by one make sure all of us had left the country.

Thanks a lot for your answer. So your hotel was outside the airport, i.e. you passed immigrtion control?

86ti, will you be travelling with family members who are EEA citizens?
