You can NOT study full time while on Tier-1 visa or you *might* be considered in breaching of immigration laws. You are however free to do part-time study.12.3 - What type of entry clearance to give wrote:- 12.3.1 Mandatory entry clearance requirement for students
From 1 September 2007, it is a mandatory requirement that non-EEA nationals seeking entry to the UK for the purpose of study, obtain prior entry clearance as a student before arriving in the UK. See also Paragraph 12.25 below on the mandatory entry clearance requirement for prospective students.
The only exceptions are those who are:
* British Nationals (Overseas)
* British Overseas Territories Citizens
* British Overseas Citizens
* British Protected Persons
* British Subjects under the British Nationality Act 1981

so does this mean people in PSW visa can not study full time? and they need to get seperate entry clearance for study full time? or since a student came intially as a student covers it up?pencillin wrote:You can NOT study full time while on Tier-1 visa or you *might* be considered in breaching of immigration laws. Tier-1 visa is for people who come here to be economically active, if you wish to pursue full time study you have to apply for STUDENT VISA if you're not an EEA citizen or one from exceptions above.

Getting ILR and extension are two separate things. In your original post you asked for extension not ILR.sasawat wrote:thanks guys, let me make it clear once again.
1. If I study on the first year (full time) and thereafter I work and earnn money enough to extend for another 2 years, upon completing 5 years period, can I still apply for ILR?
2. What if I work in at evening like restaurant and am able to study full time? will there be any issues when I apply for extension?
the visa doesn't mention anything and seems like it allows us to do anything so...
thanks everyone for your posts.

However, when applying for ILR, he doesn't have to make a certain amount, does he? So why not in the spirit of the purpose of the visa, you can study fulltime. just be careful when you cross the border that you dont trip yourself up when the IO asks you what you are doing.LankanFunkin wrote:@ConfusedHSMP: LOL. Love the outburst. I feel like that sometimes on this forum.
Sasawat:
If you already have a Tier 1 visa, I dont see any visa issues with you working on your Masters. HOWEVER, keep in mind that your Tier 1 visa was issued in the economic interest of the UK. You are not going to pull the wool over the HO eyes when it comes to ILR by taking a low income part time job to show "economic activity". The HO has set the bar at GBP20,000 for granting a Tier 1 visa, so you better make sure that while you are doing your Master's degree, you are still making in excess of 20 grand each year. If I were you, I'd concentrate on getting/keeping a well paying job, and work on my Masters part time.

Ok it is good to have a sense of humourLankanFunkin wrote:Agreed!republique wrote:just be careful when you cross the border that you dont trip yourself up when the IO asks you what you are doing.
Side story: I was recently made redundant, so I took the oppotunity to travel. Coming back into UK, for a laugh, I put "Retired Stockbroker" on the Job field of the landing card. One of the IOs I encountered got it, and we had a 5 minute chit chat right there at the desk about the economy and the job market etc. The other time (and obviously a different IO), I got a boat load (or plane load?) of attitude, with snarky questions like "This is a economic visa, why arent you working?". Christ, some people dont have a sense of humour!

I am planning to take admission for part-time masters this year. I have HSMP visa so far and awaiting my extension. After which I will be applying for college. My college timings will be during weekends so I do not have to worry about working late during weekdays.
You can definitely study part-time on HSMP/Tier1/WP as this is to enhance you skills so you can contribute more to the economy. Hope this would be helpful.
