visiting - how long can one stay

Post by ukdest » Sun Sep 13, 2009 7:24 pm

I am on Tier 1 visa and would like to bring my parents on visiting visa. How long they can stay here? I read somewhere they can stay only up to maximum 6 months on a 12 month period. Is this true?

Thanks in advance

It depends on the visa they have applied for and received. When my parents had come here for the first time in 2006 (I was still a student), they asked for a 10 year multiple entry visa and received it. They can spend upto 6 months in the UK at any time.

Nowadays, they don't give them for such long time. If they get a single entry they can visit for 3 months, but considering you are on a Tier 1, they should be able to get a multiple entry but won't be allowed to stay for more than 3 months at a stretch.

Entry clearance is still given for 180 days at a time on an entry clearance sticker, not three months.

To the OP, the rule of thumb is no more than 6 months in 12 in the UK otherwise your parents could encounter problems.
