Initial Steps after landing.

Hi Guys,

I want to know what are the first Do's after landing in UK for the first time. What applications are to be filled ., where to make an entry that we have arrived. Is there a PR card given to us ?? Where to register ourselves. Is there anything we have to do mandatorily ??

I have needed to look back at some of your previous posts to find out what sort of visa you have, because that is not clear from this posting. So you have now got your HSMP approval and EC.

Have you now got a job to go to? Accommodation to go to?

If you have a job to go to, start that job. The employer will give you a form P46 to complete which will lead to you being registered with the HMRC .... HM Revenue and Customs (formerly Inland Revenue). Also go along to the nearest Job Centre Plus office and proceed to get an interview to obtain a NINO .... a National Insurance number.

Also go to an NHS doctor's surgery and get yourself registered.

Doing those things will get you started here in the UK.

i think employed 'illegals/overstayers' also pay NI/tax contributions and the system should not treat them unfairly...

The UK is definately becoming tough......however, survival for the fittest- the tougher it gets so will the immigrants

Chess, I don't think there is any doubt that the NHS is toughening its stance and ensuring that only those entitled get treatment under the NHS. We certainly ensured that passports with visas were with us when my wife and step-daughter registered at our local NHS surgery.

Ah well, things are going to get much much tougher! When they start handing out £2000 each penalty notices to employers employing illegal workers it is not unreasonable to think that such penalties will, well, apply the mind of a lot of employers!

Police? That only applies if your visa contains a requirement to register with the Police .... and that will depend upon your nationality.

Many nationalities are exempt from that requirement.

and what about driving license. I tried to apply using my passport as identity., dvla sent back the application saying that I need to find someone to sign it and that person should have known me for atleast 2 years..., I am so new to this country., that means i cannot get a provisional license for another two years. I am from india and hold a indian driving license., anybody who managed to do this..

Have a look at http://www.dvla.gov.uk/forms/pdf/INF38.pdf

If you have an Indian driving licence, you can use that for up to 12 months, and Section 8 also says "If you have been in this country for less than two years you should take your application and identity documents to the nearest DVLA local office. Staff there are able to certify photographs in these circumstances."

It worked. I went to local DVLA office and got it signed by an DVLA officer at the counter. they send it out to dVLA swansea too and give a ack.
