Wife Visa Application, Accomodation Survey document

Hi,

I am preparing documents for my wife to join me here in the UK. I have been told it might be helpful to attach a survet document commenting on the suitability of the house/room to accomodate two people.
The trouble is I have not been able to find an estate agent or company that can do such a survey.
Has anyone else got it done and if you can pass me the company,s that can do the survey, that would be very helpful.

Hi YashKhan

You could get your local estate agent to do a HPI on the house.
A HPI is a home infromation pack they cost around £200.

What i did was phone the city council up - they will send someone to do a survey of the house and give you an official report on the enviromental conditions inside the house...
I will check at home later on and let you know exactly what this is called...

you can walk into any estate agent, try small ones, prepare a letter yourself and ask them to print it on their letter head and sign it, they may charge you 5-10 pounds or maybe free.

this estate agent letter may or may not be required depends on your case.

The whole purpose of having this letter done is so someone independant of you can examine your property and confirm that it is habitable, not overcrowded and the rooms that you state do in fact exists.

If you cant afford any of above, just do it yourself by taking photos of the rooms,the measurements and the number of people who are going to stay there. Just keep your fingers crossed that it is accepted

Thanks for your help guys. After spending a lot of time looking for it I have managed to find a company that specializes in immigration surveys and is based in Manchester.

By the way, have you tried your Local Council, most of them do it for about £120.

even if you genuinely ask any estate agent, they will come and inspect your
house and charge you around 40-50 pounds...i think it depends on how much you want to spend and how important this document is for u, i think in scenarios where you must provide accommodation proof its very important but on the other hand if accommodation is not mandatory and you only providing it to support your application to strengthen your case i think estate agent letter will do but again it all depend on personal choice.

i recently asked a well known estate agent to inspect my house and prepare a letter, they replied they wont come but prepare a letter at a reasonable price, this is my experience and i replied on that basis.

I called the UKBA and they told me on the phone that I needed to ask your local council for a Housing Inspection for Entry Clearence, it's the only evidence of housing suitability accepted by the UKBA

my council did it for free, but some (e.g. those with higher rates of immigration affecting their local area) charge a fee from £50 - £200

as i live with my parents, they have given me a letter of authority that i can stay there and an accommodation report hs been obtained, i didnt include ownership of the property will this be fateful

Property Inspection reports are not mandatory.

Call up your local council and have them do a property inspection report.

It is more official and professional as the council are your local government and for them to do a property inspection report.

At my council it is the public health department of the council that carries these out.

A phone call to the council switchboard and apppointment should suffice or you could send an email.

Either contact your local councillor to find out who you need to contact at your council and/or call up the main switchboard at the council and ask them to give you the contact of the department that deal with housing inspection reports for immigration.

There may be a fee involved but it may not ne as large as a solicitor and it also has the added bonus of being deemed the government body that carries out these reports and not a solicior or agency whom you are paying a fee.

Its also can't hurt to be on good terms with your local politicians.
