FirangInIndia:Documents given for unmarried partners Visa

Post by mushucat32 » Mon Nov 23, 2009 8:30 am

Dear FII

Still waiting for passport to be returned as there is a systems update going on at the BHC but hopefully we should have it soon!

My Advise would be to wait the 2 full years of living together before applying for this visa. I honestly believe that is one factor that the officer will be strict about.

With the original application we submitted:
Application form
Sponsorship application form
Letter from my partner giving the history and explaining why we didnt have certain things.
Letter from my self explaing also the above.
Copy of my passport and residence visa for sri lanka
My contract of employment
Partners contract of employment
Partners qualification certificates and exam results, letters of recomendation for previous jobs
6 months payslip for both of us and my P60 forms
Deed of my partners property in sri lanka-his parents are living there.
6 months bank statements for me to show savings
6 months bills from my property in UK
Mortgage statement for my property in UK
Past 2 years lease agreements for housing in Sri Lanka to show that only mine and the employers name could be added.
A water bill from our apartment in Sri Lanka in both our names.
Letters from my partners father, my mother and 2 mutual friends along with their passport copies.
Airlines bookings, hotel receipts with both our names on.
Letters from my doctor explaining why i need to be in UK for medical treatment.
31 photos of us together at various times and places dating back to 2006
All in all we submitted a 2 inch thick file!

After the refusal we sumbitted in the appeal pack:

Appeal form
Letter from my partner explaing the grounds of appeal and why we are requesting an urgent review.
Copies of my entire passport showing when i first entered sri lanka and my residence visas.
My contracts of employment and houses leases dating back to 2005.
Letter from my employer dated 2005 to the bank for opening a bank account.
Re submitted the original 31 photographs that were not sent along with the original application.
Cards for birthdays, valentines etc
Email communication from my doctor confirming a hospital appointment for December 10th in UK.
Partners recent back statement and credit card statements showing our address-previously he did not receive paper statements as he works for the same bank and used to check everything at work.

Note that these documents have not arrived in Chennai yet! Thank god an officer in Colombo listened to our story and he advised to fax all the documents to Chennai as the pack would take 3 weeks to get from Colombo to Chennai-its only a 2 hour flight! After calling Colombo and chennai every day we finally got a result after 2 weeks.

As i said above we are very lucky to have gotten the decision overturned and i believe most of it has been because of the urgency of my medical treatment. I wouldnt advise anyone to risk sending the application without the documents but by all means if there is a legitimate reason for missing documents then do thoroughly explain in your cover letter. Especially if anyone applying from countries where its difficult to get proof of cohabitation due to the culture.

Good Luck!
