hey everybody ! this week is flying by without any good news. hope we all hear some good news soon.

what kind of question should you ask when you call the customer service. to me they just say that we have nothing on the system or if it is being processed...thats it.

If you've done the whole of your secondary education (Year 7-Year 13) + a degree (plain BSc), its not so hard to imagine how a person could have been studying continously for 10 years. Tiring as it may sound, it is the norm.

I don't think they give you any straight answers besides 'your application is still in process or your application is not yet complete'.

coolboyuk, you know I very rarely disagree with you but...

I had this exact same argument with my solicitor when I was preparing my application. Why send documentation that UKBA hasn't listed? Their response, best to send too much documentation than too little. Including the standard docs is fine but extra documentation will add additional support and may answer a question that arises from the standard supporting docs. Won't speed up your application or anything, just need to cover all possible scenarios.

In saying that, wouldn't worry too much if you didn't send beyond what was asked for.

agree with kiwigirl25. my solicitor said the same thing.. and in the end I included additional docs such as bank statements, uni degree certs, rental agreements, letters from employers since i had my WP and Tier1 visas, among other things.. hopefully it shouldnt overload and confuse the caseworker

it seems to me that the HO may have just "opened" a new office to deal with the applications from March 2010, reason I say that is I have seen many (about 5 cases, from this forum, ukresident, and some foreign language websites etc.) who sent in March and April and got their ILR, took an average of 8 weeks. I do hope this is true, because this could help speeding up the process of everyones' application.

by the way,Beige, I posted my own case dates on 22th May, could you add me to the list?

congratulations to all who got their ILR. well, all I can see for now i that hose who applied based on 10 years but are currently on a work permit or HSMP are getting their ILR a lot quicker then those who spent whole period as students - sorry guys, but it seems very unfair.
I understand that government is possibly viewing those as more important for the country, but I believe many student contributed too - I paid international fees (£10000) every year for my university while my polish and lithuanian friends were paying only £1500, after all the grants and discounts. in addition, I do not understand what can possibly take so long - in the past you could get the answer in 1 day if you had PEO appointment, so what can possibly take 6 months or even greater now?! Certainly there is a huge difference between 24 hours and 6 months

Thanks for adding us to the list Beige. It feels weired now that the application is gone and wait is upon me! lol I have gotta take my hat off to some of you who have waited for such a long time! It would be interesting to see though, whether applicants with current workpermits or HSMP visas receive their ILRs earlier than anyone who does not.
Entirley different debate whether it's all fair or not but just wanna wish well to all who are on here and as soon as you get good news, please keep everyone updated..."and now, we wait!"

powermatic goodluck when you phone up UKBA but yes, I do get your points about applicants with WP or HSMPs receiving ILRs earlier than anyone on student visa status etc. but I remember my student days and ya, also remember paying an absolute fortune every year while studying! let us all know what then say about the progress of your application mate

It seems to me that UKBA contact the universities and colleges you attend to gain clarification of your status. So have any of you who are still waiting made contact with the uni admin office to see if UKBA have contacted them? There is a possibility that they either; have and sent a response; have and haven't replied yet (that way you can hurry them along); or haven't therefore your application is still pending.

Further to powermatic's point about students waiting longer than work permit applicants, I'm trying to work out exactly why that may be.

What if someone has applied for ilr after 4- 5 months after their course finishes, which is pre tier 4 .Do ukba still check to the college/uni that if i have studied there because i did not study in the college in which i got extension instead, i studied directly in the uni ,because in 2008 u can change your education provider , by sending ukba a letter that u r changing the college or uni(although u dont get any acknowledgement). One of my friend got ilr in 2008, the college said nobody contacted them from ukba about my friend studies.So,people plz tell me Do i need to start another course or what? and can i work full time ornot?

I think you're right. Luck plays a role in which caseworker we get. The way I see it, whilst they all work according to the same guidelines, there will be slight variations on how they are interpreted. With an organisation such as the UKBA, I think it's not far-fetched to think that there may still be slight variations on the interpretation of the guidelines, eg based on who the caseworkers were trained by etc.

Hope I get a reasonable one! My visa doesn't expire until 2012 but I applied now as I don't want to get caught out by any unexpected changes that may be introduced before then.
