Tier 1 General Extension lead time - does this make sense?

Post by NumbersGame » Thu Mar 10, 2011 5:37 am

Hi,

I started on the old Work Permit on 28/9/2008, and then transferred to Tier 1 G on 29/10/2008. My Tier 1 G initial expires on 29/10/2011.

I am trying to work out the best route to get to ILR.

I have noticed that in the extension application process thread, most people applied 3 month before their visa expired. But if I did that then I will need to do 1 more extension before I can apply for ILR, which I don't want to do.

I was thinking if I apply for my Tier 1 G Extension at a PEO say 1/10/2011, then if I had any documentation issue I can sort it out and reapply before my visa expires. It will cost me 300 more for PEO but it will save me applying for another extension and give me a peace of mind over postal applications.

My application is very straightforward so I can't see any complications. But I don't want to get in the situation where I make 1 tiny mistake in the form and I end up losing my visa status.

What do people think? 300 for the peace of mind and then I can apply for ILR 09/2013.

Also can someone explain to me how the biometric process fit into in person application? Do I get the biometrics done before I go to PEO, or do I get it done at the PEO office?

Thanks,

ok I just read some more of the thread on 'tightening the noose'.

it looks like if I apply < 3 month before expiry should give me the extension from my previous expiry date. which would meet my need for 5 years.

guess I'm going postal after all!
