You MP contacting the UKBA will definitely be slow. MP may be slow and UKBA is not fast in any case.

Have you considered resubmitting a RC application in the mean time, with a strongly worded cover letter?

Have you contacted Solvit?

Yes I've definitely considered resubmitting rc app, and I will do so if no progress is made at the embassy by Tuesday as the guy told me he would authorise my passport app (because he's fed up of seeing me) if they haven't got confirmation back from ukba by tuesday.

As for solvit, I don't know who they are or what they do but I'll look at the link you've posted earlier on this tread.

I'm pleased to say my embassy has finally got the letter confirmed by HO and they will be issuing me with a passport very soon.

What evidence do you have to provide to prove your citizenship and identity when applying for your passport?

Interesting. So you have to provide no documentation from nigeria!

No except sworn copy of my guarantor pp and other page in the app form. I don't think there're records in Nigeria. On this occasion my guarantor lives in Nigeria. If not, nothing has to come from Nigeria.

It is an challenging problem, ensuring that citizens (who may have a very limited paper trail) can get passports, while preventing illegitimate access.

If your wife is a french national then there should be no problems for you to travel along with her to UK. Can you elaborate on why you cannot get a passport?

Did you have a problem with the HO confirming your status even though you were "illegal" at the time? And could you please relay the process you went through to replace your passport at the Nigerian embassy as i am in an extremely similar situation and your insight would do me a lot of good.

I'm not sure I understood your question properly. I've always been known to HO as I was reporting to them weekly and was served paper (SI 96) at this period. The SI 96 was sort of 'my ID'. Although I was unable to regularise my status on paper as my app was returned to me because it doesn't include my passport. However I re-applied when I got a passport and my status was confirmed about 3months later. Hope this answers your question.

-Applied and paid about $65 online for passport
-Make sure you read word for word and 'CLICK' on relevant page to print receipt (interview date should be on the receipt, usually 6 months away)
-you will have to send an email to have your interview date brought forward to within a month (you must explain the SOS)
-return to embassy on appointment date with passport app form, letter from HO or any relevant documents relating to you immigration status.
- depending on the HO documents you're holding you may be ask to complete the process and pay relevant fees or wait for their call after they confirm your status with HO (they really do this part) once they get a reply from HO which may take between a week to 3 weeks, they'll call you to finalise you pp app- you should always reserve at lease 3-6 hours when you go to the embassy, smile for cam and place finger for biometric scanner
-collect passport in 5 working days and send off to HO ASAP

I must say, I had several letters sent to me through my MP from HO and I used one of this letters at the embassy. The embassy don't care what your status is, they just want to make sure you are know to HO in other to protect themselves.
