Ancestry visa extension

Post by Travelbug » Tue Dec 13, 2011 10:42 am

My 5 year Ancestry visa runs out on 26 January (ironically on Australia Day) and I need to apply for another 5 year extension (ILR not possible due to time spent outside the UK). I am an Australian citizen currently in London.

I just received Birth Certificates in the mail from my Dad in Australia. He sent me the following:

My Father's original birth certificate
My Grandmother's (English) original birth certificate
A photocopy of my birth extract

I don't know why he sent me a photocophy of my birth extract instead of the original but at any rate I do not, and never have had, a full birth certificate. When I applied for my visa the first time, I supplied my birth extract along with my Grandmother's birth cert to the British Embassy in Australia and there was no problem in processing my application.

I need to know if they will accep the above documents and if not, what can I do? Will the original birth extract suffice (if my Dad can find it)? Or must I apply for a full birth certificate? I fear the time it would take to apply & obtain a full birth certificate from Australia might push my time limits, especially at this time of year.

I never expected the home office would ask for these documents all over again. Surely many people find themselves in this situation. All my friends on highly skilled visas don't need to do this!!

Thanks for reading and any advice is welcome!

Cheers

Ok I have some information to hand from a friend who is in the same situation. He has told me all documents need to be full and original.

But to make matters more complicated, he says that Ancestral Marriage certificates are required where British Ancestry falls on your Mother's or Grandmother's side. My grandmother was English on my Father's side so this would mean I need to submit my Grandmother's marriage certificate along with the other docs. Can anyone confirm if this is true??? It's starting to sound quite ridiculous...

I have sorted out the birth certificate but any advice on the necessity of submitting marriage certificates from my parents and grandparents would be highly appreciated.

Anyone???
