Hello, silent follower for a start. Applied back in Sep 2011, still waiting anxiously.MP was involved and now case is assigned to caseworker in Liverpool. How long does it normally takes to process application once caseworker is assigned?

Hi everyone! I am a bit concerned now! I havn't rcvd bio invitation letter yet. I applied on 29/03/12, and i read few pple got their bio letters who applied around same time! Is there anyone still waiting for bio!

Hi Guys, sorry for the confusion. My wife applied on her own right. Her previous visa is not dependent visa, but PSW visa.

hi everyone! ok, finally i recieved my biometric inviation letter today. it was dated 17th of may. so now waiting game is on! inshallah we all get it soon!

Getting seriously worried about not receiving the letter but hoping when I do, I wouldnt have to wait another 8 weeks plus for my passport! Heard it takes 5 weeks from bio letter, is that true?

In my 8th week and still no bio letter! hopefully next week i'll get it as i am literally going crazy waiting for this! do you know how long it takes from biometric to ilr though?

total 4 months.

I am appalled, your application had not been assigned to a case worker all these months, it is difficult to say, when the application might be processed, I do hope they will process your application soonl. Good luck

Hello, I found this wonderfully useful board last weekend while trying to work out how my wife should best apply for ILR.

A quick bit of background: I was born in Britain to British parents, but my wife is currently in the UK on a Tier 1 general work permit. She came here as a student in 1997 and has been working for just over 5 years. We have been together since 1998 and got married just over 6 months ago.

So, we had this quandary about how best to apply for ILR. Do we do it on the grounds of long stay, or on grounds of having worked for 5 years, or on the grounds of being a partner of someone who is settled in the UK?

Now, being a native English speaker I believe I have pretty good language skills, but I think that the forms that one has to fill in and all the guidance that one has to read when applying for work permits or other types of residence permit are extremely long-winded and confusing. I would love to offer my services to the UKBA to go through the forms for them and the guidance and try to rewrite it in simpler English.

For example, on one of the bits of documentation I read, the UKBA had actually misspelled the word "language". Also, in section 6 of the SET(O) form, one heading of the table says "Date returned to the" instead of "Date returned to the UK". There is also the general fact that the constant use of the word "leave" when a person actually wants to stay is, although correct use of English, only opening up more confusion! What's wrong with the word "permission"?

Anyway, my wife was rejected for her last work permit application because the rules had all changed 4 years ago and required people to have £800 in savings at all times during the 3 months prior to the application. We went to court and had her appeal accepted, so she does have at least 10 years' continuous lawful residence, so we have decided to apply that way.

Now, we have read the guidance about the ILR after 10 years' residence and it does appear to say that if a person can show they have the required residence, and they are not a danger to the public, then the ILR *must* be granted. I would be grateful for opinions on this from forum members.

My wife is going to post her application tomorrow. It annoys us that we cannot have a face-to-face premium application for this, because her situation seems simple.

I do have one specific question for the forum. I know that people now have to have a biometric card given to them, and I have seen people say that they receive a letter through the post asking them to go somewhere to have fingerprints taken etc. Would I be correct in thinking that the Home Office will only ask you to do this if they are going to grant your ILR? I mean, what would be the point of getting you to do what is required for the biometric ID if they are going to reject you later?

Can anyone give me any information about this?

I think the biometric is required for all applications which are submitted on or after 28th feb in this category. As far as I understand they will not be processing it until the biometric is received with relation to each application.

So, as far as you are aware, everyone who applies will receive an invitation to provide their fingeprints, regardless of whether the application is going to be ultimately successful?

What concerns me about your reply is that if passports were generally returned within 15 weeks of the initial application when biometric ID was not required, then seeing as it takes about 2 months to be invited to provide fingerprints, is the implication that one has to wait *first* for the biometric letter and then (approximately) 15 weeks after that to receive passports back?

I must say, though, that the LiveDrive spreadsheet is incredibly useful because it gives actual concrete information about the amounts of time for which people have had to wait.

When my wife's application has been sent, I will try to keep the forum updated.

I think the UKBA do some initial checks on the application such as correct application form has been filled etc. If the initial checks fail then they consider it invalid application and will return it without asking for biometric etc. if the application is valid then they send a biometric invitation. When biometric details are received they then allocate it to the casework for consideration. UKBA timeline is keep changing. At the moment as we are aware it is taking two months just to receive the biometric letter. We are still to see how long averagely is going to take to complete the application for them after the biometric details are received. The successful applicants in the timeline table are those who applied before the biometric was introduce into this category. So all the applicant who apply after 28th feb still to receive their decisions

The HO needs every one finger print, I am sure that , sometime in the near future, they will come up with some excuse, claiming that every person over 10 years of age, visiting or living in the UK need to get their biometric done....... it's all about keeping a tab on us, mark my words.
