need help, ILR form - section 6 - absences from the UK

Post by nonothing » Fri Apr 27, 2007 11:42 am

in the form, it says: "give the dates of and reason(s) for the absences in the spaces below. List all absences, however short, including all of 3 months or more."

does it mean i need to list all absences or only those longer than 3 months?

cheers.

I think it means all, but it's another cracking ambiguous sentence from whoever writes these for the HO!

wanderer, thanks. i think you're right. it's also what i thought, but when it comes the forms from the HO, my english becomes untutored.

i checked the old version of SET(0), it's eaier to understand.
You should attempt to list all absences if you are able to do so, however short they may have been, but you should definitely list and explain all absences of 3 months or more.
it seems the guy who wrote the new form thinks the old depiction was too tedious to show their supremacy grasp of english and presumes we all should understand his simplification.

However short? Do i have to list all absences even I am out for only a weekend in France? I heard that we need to turn in all the old passports- is this true?

list ALL absences you have, However short.

However short. So yes even if it's just for 2 days you will have to list it.
Absences longer than 3 months will of course be required as the HO needs to know this.

I have a feeling that
List all absences, however short, including all of 3 months or more.
is just a poor translation of
You should attempt to list all absences if you are able to do so, however short they may have been, but you should definitely list and explain all absences of 3 months or more
Perhaps someone who has recently applied for ILR or enquired the same from HO will shed some light on this ?

Yes, you have to list all absences out of the UK, even for a 1 day. I applied for ILR yesterday at home office and was been told at reception office to fill that, as I diddn't fill that part.

It's really simple, just fill in every absence.
In a few years time we'll look back on immigration control like we look back on American prohibition in the thirties - futile and counter-productive.

Arrival stamp

Post by RedSpeed » Sun Apr 29, 2007 1:28 pm

Hi,

I was also unsure about the section 6 when I read it first but now I am attaching an additional sheet to list all my entry and exit dates and reasons.

I have around 12 visits outside UK mostly work related. But for couple of my trips in 2003 to Europe and Asia I don’t see any arrival steps for Dover and Heathrow in my passport.

I have noticed that when ever we enter in the UK, IND scan the passport so in theory HO should have the record of all the entries but I am not aware of any departure immigration control from the UK.

I have not been outside UK for more then 45 days at a starch ever but I am not bit concerned about two missing stamps.

How much should I worry about this?

May I ask Sams, were you required to hand in all your old passports too?

Please anyone been to HO recently for one day IRL services, may you tell if we need to hand in passports?
