query about immigration consultants?

Post by vora » Thu Jun 21, 2007 3:32 pm

Hi All,

My employer is wiiling to sponsor my work permit and he has asked to me contact a competent immigration consultant. Now as per my knowledge still-unclear and MigrationExpert are good.

Any suggestions on choosing a good consultant for work permit?

I would suggest staying away from immigration consultants, and recommend your employers either do the paperwork themselves or hire an experienced immigration solicitor. Just over two years ago I thought about hiring an immigration consultant for my permanent residence application and contacted three of them (I believe they were still-unclear, Immigration4UK and WorkPermit). I quickly found that I knew more than they did about about permanent residence for EEA citizens, and I had only read what was on the Home Office website. All three told me that they thought I did not qualify for permanent residence since I had not previously applied for a residence card. Despite what they said, I obtained my permanent residence later that year.

That doesn't change the recommendation of using a solicitor rather than an agency
I agree you should use a solcitor, these agencies don't seem to know how to deal with nuances and presentation

Vora, I will send you a private message with my personal experience with a London solicitor. I don' t know in which area you are, but you can check the website of the Immigration Law Practitioners Association, which includes both lawyers and immigration consultants

http://www.ilpa.org.uk/

My advice would be to look for a legal firm in your area, check their website and the CV's of the solicitors who work there (after all, they will be working for you, or rather your employer). Call them and check if they are available, and how much they charge.
