My Son's and daughter's British Citizenship

Post by tammasarath » Thu Jan 01, 2015 10:07 am

Hi,
I'm on Tier1 General visa which is valid till 2017. My wife, daughter and son all are having the dependency visa valid thru 2017.
I've 2 questions.
1. My son is born in UK in 2011, he has Indian passport and Tier1 dependency visa valid till 2017. I'll be eligible for ILR in June 2015. I'm planning to get ILR done for myself, my wife and my daughter(US citizen). My question is, should i apply for my son's British Passport immediately after i get my ILR in June? I'm planning to travel in JULY/AUG.
Is it ok if my entire family is on ILR and my son is on Tier1 dependency visa? Can I apply my son's British passport along with me and my family in 2016 June(that's when i'll be eligible for British citizenship)?
Will they not object if i travel out and come back into the country?

2. My daughter(8yrs old) is born in US and she has a US passport. In June 2015 she will have an ILR and along with me she will be eligible for British citizenship in June 2016. So, Can I just apply for her British Citizenship and Passport along with me? what should i normally do? Can she have both British and US passports? Should i inform the same to US consulate, and would it be sufficient or should i do anything else? Can someone please let me know, If the procedure is just same the way as i apply for British citizenship or should i do anything different in my daughter's case?

Your help is much appreciated.
Thanks,
Sarath

1. Son will be entitled to register for British citizenship after a parent is granted ILR. Should be okay for him to travel under Tier 1 dependant visa.

2. Yes. Daughter with ILR may register for citizenship at the same time as when you naturalise.

Both USA and UK permit dual nationalities. A US citizen must use a US passport to enter and exit the USA. Daughter will not lose US citizenship unless she renounces it.
