London: The British government has decided to give a one-year extension to Highly Skilled Migrant Programme visa holders, mostly Indians, who had come to the UK between April 2006 and November 2006.

"The UK Home Office has started privately accepting some of its mistakes made to Highly Skilled Migrant Programme Visa holders," Executive Director of HSMP forum Amit Kapadia said on Thursday.

"The HSMP visa holders, who came under the programme between April 2006 and November 2006 and are not qualified for extension as per the new retrospective criteria implemented in November 2006, have now been told that they would be given one more year's extension," Kapadia said in a statement.

But the Home Office insisted that after a year they would have to reapply for extension and have to qualify as per the stringent retrospective rules in place in order stay in the country," he said.

"This new development has not been announced by the Home Office officially on their website or in public, neither any guidance note is being made available and this is only disclosed to candidates individually, thus creating a lot of confusion and ambiguity," he said.

What about those of us who just missed the 4 year extensions last year? :(

I wonder whether the move was meant to bring those one-year visaholders into line with entrants under the revised scheme, who since Nov06 have received two-year initial leave, given that the former group, on arrival, had less than a year to arrange their employment to meet the new requirements at the extension stage. Good news
But I think we still need to wait, until the official statement form HO is declared. I also have the same opinion that retrospective change to HSMP is unfair.
