British Citizenship to my Daughter and wife

Post by isoprem » Tue Dec 04, 2007 6:47 am

Dear All,

I am a British citizen and I got the citizenship through my mother where she has the citizenship by birth (born and lived in the UK for about 4 years); however, I didn’t go to the UK before and I got my citizenship as per the amendment for the Act 1981.

My question is if it is possible to apply for British citizenship for my wife and daughter? knowing that I got married and I got my daughter before becoming British citizen, and m daughter now is almost 15 months old (she is still a baby :D ).

Note: my daughter now has a British father and a British grandmother, wouldn’t that help to make the application process for British citizenship easier?

Thanks to all in advance

The simple answer to your question is ... no. However, think about the following. On the basis of your British Citizenship UK visa applications could be made for your wife and child, and then all three of you could move to the UK. 2-year visas would be granted, if the applications are successful. Then near the end of those 2-year visas applications would be made for ILR ... indefinite leave to remain.

Then about a year later, when they have been in the UK for 3 years, applications for British Citizenship could be made in respect of your wife and child.

Hope this helps.
