UK birth certificate and passport for child

Post by Congypaul » Mon Jan 21, 2019 7:02 pm

Hi I hope I'm posting in the right category.
I'm in need of some information so i can make some decisions, my situation is this.
I have a fiance in the phillipenes who is pregnant with our child, we plan to marry in the next few months over there and for the child to be born in the phillipenes and at that point we will be married. Firstly, does anyone know how long the process is to get my child a British birth certificate? And what the process is?
Also do we have to wait for the birth certificate before applying for British passport for the child?
Also is it possible for the child to enter the UK on a Filipino passport and British birth certificate? The reason I'm asking the latter is that I heard it's much quicker to get the Filipino passport. I have heard it's a very long wait for UK passport for children born in phillipenes and I don't want to be apart from my child for that length of time. Any advice would be great.
Thanks
Paul

You would need to register the birth at the British High Commission/Embassy in the Phillippines. It probably doesn't take months and months.

You need the birth certificate to apply for a passport.

Hi
Thanks for replying. I will do as you stated, just hope it doesn't take to long. Is there no option available for the child to enter the UK with just the birth certificate and Filipino passport? I believe it's the UK passport processing times that are the long wait, the thought of it taking up to a year are quite disturbing. I'm not at all clued up on this but as it's a baby with a British birth certificate and a Filipino passport would that at least get the child in so we can apply for the UK passport while here?

Does a Filipino passport holder usually require a pre approved visit visa??

If yes then no the child can't travel. A birth cert is also not a travel document.
