Spousal visa extension, employment vs cash savings

Post by Grant12 » Sun Jan 18, 2026 10:02 am

Hi everyone,

I will be applying for my spousal visa extension soon. My wife is a British citizen and will be my sponsor. For the financial requirement part of the application, I can either use a)my wife's employment income which is above 50k gbp per year. Or I can use b)my savings back in my home country which are above 88k gbp.

I prefer to use my wife's employment income. But I have been living in the UK for the last 2.5 years without a job. Are there going to be any problems?

Should I include both my wife's income from her job AND my savings from my home country? Or will that make my application more confusing.

We have kids, and right now my wife prefers that I stay home. In a few months, my wife wants to switch roles, meaning I will be working and she will be staying home.
Our kids are British citizen.

My wife and I have never used state benefits (public funds).

Thanks in advance
