Visiting Grandson in UK

Post by tot » Thu Mar 17, 2011 3:09 pm

Hi everyone,

*Myself & my spouse moved to UK around in Oct08.

*We had a premature daughter born in England in Dec08.

*We are planning to get the daughters Grandmother here from India for a visit for about 6months, just as to cope with initial upbringing of the new born baby & as the mother of the baby also needs a bit of emotional support, (I'am sure all the mothers will agree ;))

*I am working full time for a corporate firm, & have a contract till May2011, possibly might get extended or I may switch to available options.

*Myself & my wife are here in UK on the Tier1-General & Dependent Visa respectively(expires in the Sep2012).

*We reside in a spacious 1bed in London.

Does inviting the infants Grandmother generally needs a specific reason or could be just visiting normally & would not need anything specific. If not then what kind of documents I'll should be prepared with?

If anyone could otherwise please throw some light on this.
Thanks in advance. :)

A visitor visa is for - visit. In this case, your / your wife's mother is coming to visit the family. No other reason(s) required.

See also Visitors guidance.

Thanks for the speedy reply.

It would be gr8 if you could confirm whether... documents like property papers, self maintenance cost(not sure of the amount though), or such other... are required for successful application?

If someone could list the imp aspects to be taken care before applications or share a link, regarding so.

Many thanks

Key points to satisfy:

1) That she's coming for a visit - so clear ties back to her home country (relatives, property, money, job) - and a plan for her return - e.g. "the aim is for her to return on date x"

2) That there is sufficient funds to support her - if that's you supporting her - then proof of income, bank statements etc. If it's her - the same thing - if it's a combination then both.

3) That there's sufficient accomodation for her - now, a one bed flat *might* be a problem depending on how many rooms there are. See MAA14 here: http://www.ukvisas.gov.uk/en/ecg/mainte ... n#18172733

So - you need to show you own or rent the property - so land registry docs, mortgage docs, tennancy agreement etc.

If you are renting - you'll also need the permission of the landlord to have a visitor for that long.

Given the size of the flat - you might want to consider getting a housing report done to show the size of the property.

4) Do not - and I cannot stress this enough - indicate she is coming to act as childcare to allow the mother to return to work or to replace a paid for child minder. This will be seen as a request to come and work and will be denied.

We have just gone through this for my mother in law and we sent a huge bundle of docs over - but she got the visa (a 2 year one as it happens because she'd previously had a 6 month) - and that's for an unemployed housewife.

HTH.

Thanks MPH80

That surely helps. :)
As per the link which you gave me it says that Rooms like living room & bedroom are considered as "Rooms" and other if rooms if about 50sqft are also considered as individual "Rooms", except bathrooms & Spam.

In my case we have one 1BHK, so the no of considerable rooms are 2(living+bed) & the table under that link shows that a residence consisting 2 rooms can accommodate maximum of 3 people. Therefore this seems to satisfy our requirements. But....

1. Considering my mother's age which is 57, could there be any specific restriction by UK gov not allowing her to be accommodated in living room as of now.(we do have a sofa-cum-bed). Generally speaking there should not be any bed time issue or could there be a reason for that too??

2. What could be the minimum sufficient amount of supporting savings & and does that too needs to be consistently maintained for minimum period of 3 months or so. What I had heard that apart from your property papers you need to show atleast INR 300,000. Is that true or any links providing such info. in specific??

3. Also my father had expired in 2005, & I have an elder brother (bachelor) living with my mom presently. How can this situation help in getting her here & assuring the ECO of her going back to own country?

Thanks in advance.Appreciate the help.

Hi I was wondering if someone could please enlighten the points below :

But....
Accommodation
1. Considering my mother's age which is 57, could there be any specific restriction by UK gov not allowing her to be accommodated in living room as of now.(we do have a sofa-cum-bed). Generally speaking there should not be any bed time issue or could there be a reason for that too??

Self Maintenance Cost(Minimum)
2. What could be the minimum sufficient amount of supporting savings & and does that too needs to be consistently maintained for minimum period of 3 months or so. What I had heard that apart from your property papers you need to show minimum of GBP 2800(INR 201,388 ). Is that true or any links providing such info. in specific??

3. Also my father had expired in 2005, & I have an elder brother (bachelor) living with my mother presently. How can this situation help in getting her here & assuring the ECO of her going back to own country?
