Hello everyone, I have a question and will be happy if anyone can give an answer to this.

I applied for a UK visa in 2009 in Germany with a Ghana passport but the application was refused due to false representation and I was given a 10 years visa ban which will end in 2019.

Now I am a German citizen with a German passport, I want to know if I can visit the UK now under the EU Free movement treaty or I will still have to wait till 2019 before I can travel to the uk.

I will be glad to get your responses ASAP. Thanks

Interesting question.

In practice I suspect you will have no problem traveling on your valid German passport.

As an EU citizen you have some very strong free movement rights. If you have any problems entering the UK, make sure you make very careful notes of the names of all the visa officers who you talk with and exactly what they say. Take your time. Have them read over your notes and sign or stamp them to confirm that they are correct.

welcome to the forum.

I guess itÂ´s a UK-visa-ban, which is literally a ban for visas.

As EU citizens do not need a visa, I suspect nothing will happen.

Furthermore, consider the practical side: At least the last time I entered the UK flying in from Europe, which was around 2006, there were two lines: EU and non-EU. In the EU-line they just quickly look at your ID assuring itÂ´s an EU-passport or ID-card, and then wave you through. DoesnÂ´t take longer than 10 secs per person, as such I guess you shouldnÂ´t have a problem either way.

I should also say very clearly: If you travel to the UK, do not lie. If they ask you if you were previously banned, tell them Yes. You do not need to offer information they do not ask for, but if you do answer a question, make sure your answers are true.

Sorry...why did u need to apply when u have a german passport??? U can only be excluded on grounds of public policy/security/health none of which would apply to your little misdemeanour. But still, y did u apppy for a visa??????

I applied for the UK visa in 2009 because I was using a Ghana passport. I only got my Germany Passport last year that explains the reason.

Hello Everyone.. Thank you for your advices. I just got back from the UK and I think it will be nice to share my experience with you.

On getting to the Immigration queue for EU Citizen. I gave my German passport to the Immigration officer, he scanned it as he did to people before me and asked me if I have ever been refused a visa before using a Ghana passport, I was very honest to say yes. He then gave me a white form that he will need to check my record and asked me to take a sit. while I was sitting, he came back 5 minutes later and told me that I am now a German Citizen and said ''sorry for keeping you waiting'' that he was just trying to do a routine checking and said that I do not have any problem and to end the conversation he said welcome to Britain.

How did he know that you had a passport from Ghana? Had you told him? Or did he realize based on scanning your new German passport?

I suppose he could see it on the Computer that the name, date of birth and my photograph on my German passport match with what he saw on the computer after scanning thats why he asked me the question.

I suspect you are right. Interesting to know they do that behind the scenes when they scan your passport.

You should likely never have this delay again when entering the UK. (I would hope that they do not want to waste their and your time on each entry). Have fun travelling!

Since you are holding an EU visa there should be no problems for you to travel to any EU state including UK. You are free to travel to UK.
