Diabetes & Prescription Exemption

Post by bunty4ILR » Mon Sep 05, 2011 9:38 am

Dear members

I applied for ILR (postal) 2 weeks ago on 10 years long stay grounds. I am not too well since the beginning of May and recently my GP has diagnosed me with Diabetes Type 2. He has prescribed me some tablets, Blood Sugar monitor, test strips and lancets (needles) and also gave me a Prescription Exemption form which I had to sign and post to 'Help with Health Costs Unit' in New Castle. My GP has also advised me to get a refund form from the pharmacy if I am paying for prescription in the meantime.

I have never claimed any benefits and I dont want to claim but I dont know if should be using this free option. I have paid for my first four prescriptions (£29.60) last week and dont want to take any chance. I have tried to check on the web and also here but no success. Can you please advise if the free prescription could affect my ILR application? Is this classed as 'public funds'. Thank you for your time and advice.

Thanks, I have asked a solicitor about the free prescriptions and he told me it's not a public fund, it is treated as NHS treatment.
