hi i have ILR. i need to know is it required by law to get british citizenship if u have ILR or just a choice coz someone told me i you have ILR you must apply for citizenship otherwise u will have to leave the UK.Plz give me some link to support your reply as it will be useful for me

British Citizenship is a privilege not an obligation. You can stay with an ILR indefinitely (that's what the "I" stands for...) if you wish.

I am not aware of such a law that makes it mandatory for someone with ILR to apply for citizenship. It is a matter of choice. ILR has been explained by Jambo and I agree with him. Think of the case of Mohamed Al Fayed. He applied for British Citizenship, and was turned down a number of times. But he has not been required to leave the country.
