Application timing (before/after satisfactory period, appointment timing)

Post by bdub » Thu Aug 29, 2019 11:10 am

Hi everyone,

I am trying to decide when to submit my ILR SET(M) (5-year route) application and I thought I'd seek some advice from the forum.

I will be living in the UK for 5 years on 24/09/19, so I should be able to apply any time now.

However I have a big trip planned from 10/10/19, and I don't know if I might be able to get everything done and BRP received by then.

My current BRP expires on 04/12/19, so my other option is to apply in November when I come back from my trip. However, I am concerned that I might not be able to get an appointment before 04/12/19. I know you can stay past your current visa if you've submitted the application. Is this the date of the online application, or the date of biometric appointment/document scanning? What happens if I submit online in early November but do not get an appointment until after 04/12/19?

Is there any downside to applying after you've the 5-year mark?

I'd really appreciate if anyone has any tips or advice. How long should I expect to wait before getting an appointment? I am considering choosing the next day option but even that seems a bit random according to forum posts - not always next day.

Thanks so much!

Makes no difference when you apply as long as you submit and pay online before your visa expires. The date you submit and pay is the date of application and not the date of your appointment for biometrics.
