British citizenship- spouse and son (18 years)

Post by Mitras » Sat Aug 15, 2020 2:06 pm

Hi,

My husband is a BC. Both me and my son who turned 18 early this year, just received our ILR through 5 year route.

As a spouse of a BC I am eligible to apply for citizenship immediately. Can you please advice if my son also can apply or should he wait for 12 months. Thank you.

No he cannot.
or should he wait for 12 months.
As an adult, he has to wait 12 full months on ILR before he can apply and must meet all the standard requirements for citizenship based in 5 years residence.

If he is over 18 and not married to a British citizen, then he must wait for at least 12 months after being granted ILR, etc.

If your son has celebrated his 18th birthday, he needs to meet all the requirements for naturalisation (absence, physical presence, English language, LITUK, etc) in his own right.

If he is not married to a British citizen himself, he needs to wait for one year from the date of the grant of his ILR.
