Applying for BC for my 4yo son - I have settled status- Self sufficiency

Hi all,

I am filling the form MN1 for my son who is 4. i reached the section where it asks for proof of employment or self sufficiency. Do I provide my payslip here?

I went ahead and provided details of my employment as a dad.

Now they want a referee. is this required for 4yo children? have I clicked on the wrong form?

All applicants for citizenship require two referees, one must be a professional of any nationality and the other a British citizen over 25.

Unsure why there is an employment question. Presumably you posted the child as the applicant etc.

Yes that is the correct link.

It says the referee has to have known the applicant for 3 years.
also, if it is a child it says, one of the referee has to be a professional who has interacted with the child in a professional capacity. My son has been to nursery for only 2 years.

Do you think it is fine to ask the nursery manager to do it?

No personal experience, however caseworkers will be aware of the age of the child, just think even babies at 6 months are registered.
Note that UKVI are aware of the difficulties finding referees for children. Many refuse due to data protection concerns. Hopefully the Nursery Manager is professionally qualified, otherwise find a referee (who knows the child) from the list of ‘Acceptable professional persons’ here: https://assets.publishing.service.gov.u ... als_v4.pdf (page 24). Add a note explaining.

There are, the referee rule for children is not stringent, so provide ones that are from the list, May not be in contact for official or professional engagement and definitely the 3yr rule not enforced.

Could anyone clarify the process for me, I am currently still stuck on the referee step but should be sorted soon.

Once I have finished the MN1 form and paid my fee, do I have to send my son's foreign passport to the Home Office straight away? we are planning some holidays and hence asking. Do we get the passport back quickly or at the end of the process?

Originals are not sent to ukvi. Everything is uploaded digitally if applying within the UK.
