Great n0mi .... thank you for sharing I liked this part
6. How do I show that my qualification is deemed by UK NARIC to be the recognised standard?

UK NARIC regularly update the online points based calculator (which is on our website) with information about various degrees. If you obtained a degree overseas and were awarded ten points for English language skill, you can submit evidence from the online points calculator, together with the original degree certificate, to demonstrate that you can satisfy the English language element of the Knowledge of Language and Life in the UK (KOLL) requirement.
Gurus atleast now some advice on this please ...

I also asked the similar question and got the pdf Factsheet stating that printout from PBS calculator and Degree in original would be enough.

Do you mind reminding us what the pdf factsheet is please? I am in the same situation and got an appointment booked for tomorrow with NCS. Planning to go with PBS printout however a bit worried that NCS people would not accept it.
Thanks

I received my BA (Hons) degree in 2002 from a South African university and though it was taught in English I scored 0 points on the calculator.

If I ask NARIC to confirm that this degree was taught in English would they then just say their calculator doesn't recognize it? Am I thus better just doing an English test instead?

Jeez this all seems ridiculous, I could speak to a UKBA employee over the phone for 10 seconds to prove it!

PS - Even more ridiculous that South Africa does not fall under 'majority English' country, which it obviously is. Obviously this is all politics.

All - Thanks for your useful info. If we can supply PBS Calculator print out as proof for Knowledge of English requirement, what option we need to select in the application form. I am looking at application form AN. In that under entry 1.22 two options are there i) UK Naric has confirmed that the qualification was taught or researched in English; or
ii) the qualification was taught or researched in the Uk or a majority English speaking country.

Last week I sent e-mail to Home Office but not yet received any reply.

Howzit? I am shocked that SA is not included as an English speaking country. Having said that how many official languages to they got there...

The only thing I can think of why you got 0 points is that maybe your degree is not comparable to a UK Bachelors therefore whether it is English or not it won't give you the points. Have you checked whether your degree is shown as a UK equivalent one? As far as I know if you study in SA, you need to do your honours to be accepted as a Bachelors of Europe.. might be totally wrong though...

sorry did not get your question here.

Did you study in the UK? if yes, you don't need to show anything other than your degree certificate. so you need to check ii.

I got B.Tech degree from India and this degree is available in PBS calculator. My Question is in the Naturalisation application form there is no option to choose this. The options are whether degree taught in UK or certified from UK NARIC.

your degree is from India not from UK.

if it is on PBS (and you get your points), it means NARIC recognises your degree.

Stellenbosch. I tried same details but with UCT and UNISA and both got 10 points. Probably due to the fact that historically Stellenbosch was an Afrikaans university, but my post-grad course was all English.

that's 'kak' man.

I would get in touch with Naric, I am sure they can amend it, I have read somewhere in the forum that Naric made a mistake for somebody's university confirmation and they amended after this dude complaint about it...

NCS visit

Post by bcan13 » Thu Nov 14, 2013 3:06 pm

Just came back from NCS.

The lady was really disappointed with the way that Home Office changed the regulation and did not brief them about anything. She said it used to be really straight forward, now it got so complicated. Basically she was not happy.

And also she had no idea on the Factsheet that HO sends to people who email them regarding the applications and she thanked me that I brought a copy for her.

She did not question anything but it seemed like she does not know much about the PBS at all.

well, she accepted everything and thanked one more time that I have been extremely useful eg the extra information etc.

Now I am only hoping the dudes in HO would know things more than the NCS dude and don't confuse themselves on my application.

Good luck guys!

Ciao!
