Does self-employed work experience count?

Have been working as a self-employed web designer for last 3+ years here in UK and was wondering if anyone could tell me if this counted towards minimum work experience required for permanent residence visa in Canada.

Also, any suggestions on best supporting documents to supply.

I've a similar question. I have a small proprietor company (into IT) and i wish to migrate to Canada. My queries are:

1. Will my self employed experience be counted worthy to work and find a job in Canada?
2. How do I do the documentation to gather that experience?
3. I'm the proprietor of my company and is that any hindrance to find a job in Canada? (I'm into IT)
