Student visa extension and spouse visa

Hi all

I’m new to this forum but wanted to ask a question about student visas for Canada.

My fiancé and I are planning to get married in India in November this year.

His sister lives with her husband in Canada. And she’s saying that she’s not able to return for the wedding. Her husband is on a student visa. He completed his studies in April 2020. And I understand that he then has 90 days from then to extend his visa further.

My SIL-to-be is on a spouse visa through her husband and she had this granted in October 2019.

She has told us that they are not able to travel whilst this extension process is going on.

I want to understand if this is the case?

From what I’ve read, it says that provided a valid eTA is there for the husband (primary applicant) and he’s in the visa extension process, they should still both be able to travel?

And is it really the case that if he’s not able to travel, she also can’t (on her own)?

We have done our registry (legally married) but in November will be our religious ceremony (which is important for his family). Thanks for asking though!
