Child born out of uk

Post by sha373 » Tue Feb 02, 2016 8:54 pm

Hi, I am sorry if I m asking a question which has been answered before ,
My friend is British citizen by naturalization , he has daughter of age 5 and was born in Pakistan , at the time of birth my frnd was on Tier1 visa, his daughter and wife is still in Pakistan
My question is, what is the status of his daughter ? Can she be British citizen while residing in Pakistan?
Or she has to apply for dependent visa to enter in uk?
Many thanxx

My question is, what is the status of his daughter ?
In terms of the UK?? She doesn't have 'status' in the UK.
Can she be British citizen while residing in Pakistan?
No she is not British.
Or she has to apply for dependent visa to enter in uk?
Yes, but will only get a visa if her mother is granted a visa.

The status of children born outside the UK is in line with the less privileged parent.

So, in this case, whatever is the mother's UK status will be the child's status.

If the baby is born AFTER you become British, then the baby is British by Descent and can apply for a passport directly.

But such a child will not be able to pass on its citizenship. So, your grandchildren born outside the UK will not be able to inherit British citizenship from your child.
