Citizenship - name change - no surname

Post by ukbane » Mon Dec 10, 2018 10:10 am

Hi We are applying for British Citizenship for my wife. She is from India and as per normal custom she didn't really have a surname before marriage. Not using her real name but an example would be: name before marriage - Jane Smith - then after marriage she adopted my surname and became Jane Smith Peters with Smith becoming a sort of middle name.

On her application to the UK, the bio-permit, all letters etc she has used the name Jane Smith Peters. However on the application form it asks whether she was know by any other name - therefore do we need to mention that she was know as only Jane Smith before marriage. Her name hasn't changed - only a surname was added?

Hope this names sense.

Yes you simply mention her name as it was before marriage.

Thanks we do. But in India the requirement is just to take an advert out in the paper which has been done. We don't have anything else if the Home Office ask for proof. Thankfully her indian passport has her Jane smith peters and so does her permit
