Divorce of convenience

Post by SaadAli678 » Tue Mar 26, 2019 10:46 am

Dear All

I refer to https://www.gov.uk/government/publicati ... s-marriage

what do UKVI mean by the line "Any case where there is evidence that a divorce of convenience has occurred should be referred to Family Operations Policy for consideration and advice." ?

I got divorced from my ex wife of Pakistani origin 2 months ago. The divorce took place in the UK and I possess a valid Decree Absolute now. My ex wife came to the UK on my spouse visa 9 years ago. She too is a British citizen now. We continue to own a property in the UK and continue to be on friendly terms. I am supporting her financially till she finds a job. We despise each other as life partners but continue to own a property and I plan to financially support her out of a sense of goodness (of course not forever).

Would this construe to 'divorce of convenience' as I plan on marrying someone else from Pakistan now and obviously apply for her spouse visa eventually?

regards
Saad

thanks @CR001

but what does 'divorce of convenience' mean in the above line on UKVI website in its orignal context. They dont explain it well. Can it even apply to valid Decree Absolute issued in the UK following legal process ?

I dont want UKVI to view my new marriage and spouse visa application as leading to a polygamous household just because I have financial ties and friendly terms with my ex.

You need to read in context of the paragraph in the link regarding polygamus marriages, which is not relevant to your circumstances. It means a divorce purely for immigration purposes to bring a second spouse on a visa when the first spouse is already currently on spouse visa.

You are overthinking.
