To clarify -
1 - I've received no update or request from UKVI or UKVCAS to upload documents.
2 - On the homepage of the UKVCAS site there's no mention of this, it's only when I went to 'document upload' did I notice this request (it could have been there for months)
3 - I had both my wifes old and new passport scanned at the biometric appointment. Could it have been something specific that was missed?

Unless they can make some exceptions? (which I doubt)All updates about your application will come from UKVI directly and NOT from UKVCAS.
UKVI will be in touch directly if they need any additional information from you and to let you know their decision about your application.
Where did the request come from? Were you instructed to upload it on UKVCAS? You could send it to UKVI directly just in case.

After you attend biometrics at the UKVCAS centre all communications come from UKVI. Actually the acknowledgement email after supporting information is submitted says so.

Calling UKVI help centre will not make any difference, they will not give you any update. These are not UKVI staff and usually providing generic (and inaccurate) advice.
It came from the UKVCAS site, I just happened to click on the Document Upload Tab and it was notification at the bottom to upload. Do you maybe know the email for UKVI that I should try?
