English Requirement

Post by Zain Ali » Sat Jan 01, 2022 7:49 pm

I wanted to ask that when I applied for my ILR my daughter was under 18 so she did not do her English B1 test but was granted ILR. Now that she has turned 18 does that mean she will now have to do B1 test? I have read the "FAQs - English language requirements for naturalisation" but did not really understand the point 1 regarding Which are the Exempt categories? so can you please explain this.

Point 1 which states:

You don’t need to prove your knowledge of English if you:
1. met this requirement, on or after 28th October 2013, in order to obtain settlement (ILR or PR)

She needs the B1 English test AND the Life in the UK test. There is no exemption for her.

When she was a child, she didn’t meet an English language requirement in order to obtain settlement, as there is no English language requirement for a child’s ILR. Hence, point 1 is not applicable.
