English requirements - my degree was taught in English and I have got an English Certificate instead of Ecctis letter

Post by Ihaveaquery » Sat Aug 13, 2022 12:10 pm

Hi,

I am slightly confused regarding the UK naturalisation form.

I have studied my degree in English (from outside UK), I have my degree with me and have also got a letter from my college/university from around 12 years ago on their letter head stating the details and confirming that my degree was taught in English.

I have NOT got a letter from Ecctis proving that my degree was taught in English. However, I have got a valid English certificate Grade 5 GESE from Trinity College, which demonstrates my English ability, since I thought it was the easy and best option available.

When I applied for my ILR it was a paper based application about 10 years ago, so I don't remember whether I used my degree/university letter or the English certificate which I had then from pearson education PTE-A (which is no longer valid and can't be used, and it was used in one of my previous visa extension applications applied in UK.)

Now, on the online application for UK Naturalisation, If I mention YES that my degree was taught in English, it does not ask any details for my English Certificate and therefore I can't use my current English certificate for my application. And, If I mention NO my was not taught in English then it does ask me about my English certificate. However, I don't want to lie or give incorrect information in my application regarding my Degree, given it was taught in English. Please advise what are the best next steps I should consider. Thanks.

Kind Regards

Apply for the Ecctis letter with your foreign degree if you won't have time taking another English test, the process takes about 2 weeks.

Say NO to the degree question if you are using the english test. The question is ONLY for how you meet the requirement. You are not lying. Ukvi don't care about you degree.
