Entry to Belgium on Biometric Residence permit as dependant

Post by Najeebshah17 » Thu May 02, 2019 3:58 pm

Hi. My apologies for any repetition. I am originally from Pakistan but now have been granted British Citizenship. My daughter was born here and has British Citizenship. My wife is currently on PBS Dependant Visa valid until January 2021 but will qualify for ILR in late 2020. We wish to travel to Belgium to visit family together. As per my understanding after review of schengen visa requirements my wife doesnt require a visa for belgium as long as she travels with us, as her BRP and stays less than 90 days. Is this correct?

She needs a Schengen visa.

Why do you believe she does not?

As the UK is not a part of the Schengen Zone, she does need a Schengen visa. She should be issued one for free and with minimal documentation, but she does need one.

If you are travelling by Eurostar, she could theoretically be issued one by the French PAF at St Pancras station. But if you plan to fly, the airline staff may not allow her to board the plane without a Schengen visa.

Thank you guys. I thought if you were a close family member of a national of EU state you wouldnt need a schengen visa. Thanks for the correction. Is there link to use the french paf service? Or can we just show up at st pancras on the travel day and get it? She would need an invitation letter from the host etc belgium right? Many thanks

EU citizen (non British) when the spouse holds an EEA Residence Card under the EU rules, which your spouse does not hold.

You need to apply for a visa BEFORE travelling.
