Every application is different - did you apply for BlueCard or a regular work permit?

Work permit applications often take 12 weeks and longer.

Who is 'they' and did 'they' give you any paperwork?

Two weeks sounds ambitious even for a visitors visa.

I'd still expect a turnaround of about 12 weeks, especially if they need the all clear from authorities in Germany. Two weeks is hardly enough to get any correspondence about your application into a diplomatic back and to Germany, never mind distributed to wherever they need information from.
