Information regarding  the UK Ancestry Visa

Post by Cdup » Thu Dec 07, 2023 2:58 pm

I am a 70 year old South African citizen and  interested in applying for this visa for both my husband and I (my husband is 73).  Both my paternal grandparents were born in England.

We are retired and living on interest from investments. Will this be acceptable? What is the minimum income required?

Any information will be greatly appreciated.

There is no minimum income element.

You simply need to prove that for the visa, you have the equivalent of abou £1700 available each to sustain yourselves. You will have no access to public funds or benefits etc in the uk.

Also note that an Ancestry visa is a work visa, paid or unpaid, and you would be required to provide evidence you intend to work (the main ancestry visa applicant).

It is expensive too, the IHS fee alone for 2 people is over £10,000 (R235,000 roughly) at present for a 5 year visa plus rhe visa fee if £637 each.

Do you have all the unabridged or vault copies of birth and marriage certificates for yourself and the ancestral line?

Thank you for the information.
All I have at the moment are unabridged copies of my birth and marriage certificates and scans of my grandparents' baptism and marriage cerificates from church registers. I will order certificates from the GRO when/if we should decide to go ahead. At the moment we are only gathering information.

Our daughter is marrying a British citizen and he is in the process of aplying for a spouse visa to take her and her kids with him to the UK.  We are looking for a way to join them, as they are living very near to us, and we always help and look after our grandchildren while she's at work. As she will be working in the UK we want to be near them to help.

I appreciate you help - thanks again.
