How to get husband's surname on passport with naturalisation certificate has wife's surname

Hello,

My wife received her Naturalisation Certificate with her surname.
Now, she is going to apply for British passport. She wants to have my surname on her British passport.

Can we use Naturalisation Certificate with her surname and our marriage certificate (issued from India) to have British Passport with my surname ?

Which surname is in her foreign passport? HMPO will only issue a British passport in the name on her foreign passport.

She has Indian passport with her own surname.

In that case, what is the right way to get my surname on British Passport ?

Note that she is going to surrender her Indian Passport after getting British passport.

Apply for first passport.

Then do a deed poll to change her name and apply for a second passport in her married name.

Can she surrender her Indian passport without getting a British passport?

If she can, then perhaps she should do so. That way, she will not have an uncancelled passport against which the name will be matched.

She could then do a deed poll name change and apply directly for her first British passport with the deed poll and naturalisation certificate.

This is a suggestion based on theory. Wait for others to advise on whether it can be done in practice.

Also, that will mean that there will be a period of time when she will have no valid proof of identity and will be unable to travel abroad.
