Ilr for UK born child

Post by Poornima93 » Sat Jul 15, 2023 5:25 pm

Hi Everyone,

We have a new born, born in April, and when our child is born, we don't have ILR, but our ILR process is due in October.

1. Should we wait until we get ILR and apply British passport for our child or
2. Do we need to apply Indian passport until we get ILR.

(We don't have travel plans until we obtain ILR)

Thank you

Please do not tag your questions onto other members topics. Your post has been split and moved to the British citizenship sub forum.

1. You child is not British so cannot just apply for a British passport. You have to apply to ukvi to register the child as British first, using form MN1 and pay the fee. Once approved and you receive the certificate, only then can you apply for a British passport.

2. No.

Note that a new born child is only entitled to 3 months free NHS use. Make sure you have medical insurance to cover the child.
