ILR question

Post by sasha » Fri Jul 22, 2005 10:58 am

Can please someone help me with the following?

I have ILR. Whenever I arrive to London airports I've always been asked by the immigration officers how did I get my ILR!?! Does anyone know why? Does it matter? Can it be revoked?

many thanks

I see nothing wrong in them asking you how you obtained it, just tell them the truth, unless you obtained it fraudulently and have something to hide. They cannot revoke it unless thay have a good reason to e.g you stayed out of the UK for more than 2 years or obtained in fraudulently.

Any person requiring and thus by extension seeking leave to enter the UK must satisfy the Immigration Officer that they meet the conditions of the category they seek said leave. The IO (acting for the Home Secretary) is empowered by immigration laws, rules and operational policy to ask pertinent questions/ details pertaining to the status the potential entrant holds and is seeking. This is to include when, what and how the relevant category of leave was obtained - they are doing their job as they are meant to be.

i have travelled 40-50 times since I got ILR - mainly on day trips to Europe. Many times they asked me that. No harm in it.I think they ask you to see whether you have rightfully got your visa or not. Just tell them 4 years WP or the reason that applies to you and thats about it.

I've also been asked the very same question everytime I re-enter UK ... as for the reasons, think the earlier responses clarify the reasoning behind it.

If im not mistaken, its actually a standard question they ask thats laid out in there procedures manuals, you can actually view that on the homeoffice website. Its like when a work permit holder re-enters the country they always ask 'has your circumstances changed?' and thats it!

Don't worry about it.
