Life in the UK Test

Post by dave000 » Mon May 08, 2023 1:32 pm

Hi,

I would be eligible to apply for ILR in Sept/Oct 2023. Do I have to pass the Life in the UK Test as a requirement or is it for British Citizenship only?
If yes, then how sooner/later can I give the test? Is there any time/score validity?
Please guide.

Thanks.

Yes, you need it for ILR.

You have to pass the test, obviously (75% or more correct answers); it doesn't expire, so you're free to go for it any time.

When to apply for ILR?

Post by dave000 » Wed May 10, 2023 2:42 pm

Hi,

It would be very helpful to get some advice on when should I apply for ILR. My husband is a British national and I arrived in the UK on 26/06/2018. My current visa expires on 14/10/2023. Am I only allowed to apply 28 days prior to this expiration date?

This is what I saw on the Govt website: "The earliest you can apply is 28 days before you meet the requirements for the time you need to have lived in the UK"

"5 continuous years if you’re on the 5-year route"

OR is it once 5 years are completed - I think for me it would be 26/06/2023. Is this correct? Also in my total stay in the UK since 2018, I was around six months away (not together but adding all holidays) - Family weddings, visits, etc. Does this matter?

Many thanks in advance.

Hi,

I plan to start my ILR application towards the end of this month. I have asked this question before but I am still slightly confused. As mentioned before, I entered the UK on the 26th of June 2018 so I am eligible to apply for ILR at the earliest 28 days before 26/06/2023. My husband, a British national, and I are going to France for a few days, from 22nd June to 27th June 2023. Does this in any way affect me? From what I know, I can start the application around 31/05/2023 and submit the application before flying out on 22nd June 2023. I can book a biometrics appointment when they will take my passport (if I remember) once I return which is 27/06/2023. I don't remember clearly what the process is...

Any guidance will be much appreciated.

Thanks.

You must NOT travel after you submit your application, so you should only apply when there is no plan to travel :!:
UKVI does not ask for ANY physical documents anymore.

FYI, you can't fly out once you submit your ILR application. :!: You might as well come back from France, before you make the ILR application.

Hi,

My five years in the UK will be completed on the 26th of June 2023. I know that I can apply for ILR now but I am going out of the UK for a few days hence cannot submit until I am back. I just need some understanding about how soon I can apply and what should be the date of the documents especially the employer letter, payslips (6 months) and bank statements (6 months) of my spouse. I am returning to the UK on the 27th of June after a week outside and in this scenario, can I start to fill out the form now and submit it on 29th or 30th June if possible? If this is the case, then what should be the date of these documents? Should these be no older than 28 days before the date of submission?

I hope this is not confusing. It is just that I don't want to delay the visa process as I am looking for full-time jobs and my visa expiry date might not increase my chances.

Please provide some scenarios that might help me to speed up this process.

Thanks.

So far you still have valid leave on returning, you can apply then and with your LIUK passed.

Thanks. I have started filling out the form/Set M. My plan is to apply on 28/06/2023 (hopefully I will pass the test). My husband gets his salary slip on the last day of the month but the salary is credited a few days before. When they say last six months then will it be okay to submit a salary slip dated 31/05/2023 as below: Or is it exactly 28 days from the date of submitting the application then perhaps the salary slip date might not be accepted? His statements are generated from 18th March to 19th April so if I wait for the salary slip of June then might have to wait for statements to be generated which will have salary entry. Or maybe I call the bank for early statements for June entry? Please guide. Thanks

You can get to bank and ask for account transactions printout that reflect the inflow of his salary. This suffice for the purpose. For clarity, you can add a cover note or letter explaining this to CW.

Property/Finance Questions

Post by dave000 » Sun Jun 18, 2023 1:23 pm

Hi there,

I passed the life in the UK test yesterday so fortunately I am all set to apply latest by the end of this month. In the finance part, there are two questions which I am not sure about. My husband owns the property so I answered this question: Do you own or rent your home? Neither own nor rent. I provided this justification "My husband provides me with accommodation. I have lived in his house since June 2018. He is the owner of the house" . Then there is another question where they are asking Do you currently live with parents, friends or family rent-free? I answered Yes to this because I live with my family, that is, my husband and I don't pay any rent. Is this correct?

Many thanks.

Your answers above ok. First one can be Yes and provide same reason.

Hello there,

I am about to submit my ILR application but have some questions about documents upload:

This might sound like a stupid question but will it be okay if I take pictures of documents using a mobile phone and upload them? My scanner is not working...

We are not paying any mortgage at the time as there is overpayment - About the mortgage statement, should it be no older than 28 days from the application date or that doesn't matter? There might be a yearly statement somewhere which I need to find but am not sure about the date. How latest it should be?

Many thanks.

Hello,

My husband's letter from the employer and employment contract are not signed - The sign-off is done as below (an example):

Yours sincerely
Jack Smith
Manager

Would that be okay?

Many thanks

Thank you Zimba and the team. These should be the last two queries before I upload the documents and then wait for the biometric appointment.

1. My Passport is mandatory - Of course, I will take it with me on the day of the appointment. For uploading, do I need to upload old passport as well which has nothing to do with Spouse Visa - the five-year route but yes I did use it for travelling before when I was on a different visa. Regarding the current - Do I need to upload all the passport pages? As mentioned before, my scanner/printer is not working so I am taking pictures using my phone. With a passport, taking pictures is difficult until I use my hand to keep it open.

2. Declaration page and a cover letter - Can my spouse sign these using the draw option in pdf? Any suggestions from you would be very helpful.

I really appreciate all the help.
